Metformin

Metformin is the 1st of the TOP 10 Life Extension Nutrients and Drugs by American Academy for Anti Aging Medicine

Metformin was approved for the treatment of diabetes mellitus.  However, it is discovered that Metfromin has a wide range of biological activities including:

  1. Treatment for diabetes mellitus;
  2. Weight loss and reducing blood cholesterol;
  3. Cancer prevention;
  4. Anti-Aging;
  5. Reducing risks for heart attack and other cardiovascular deaths;

Side effects and contraindications:

Metformin should not be used in patients with conditions that increase the risk of lactic acidosis (such as renal failure).

Metformin is very safe.  Some people may have GI discomfort (nausea, vomiting and diarrhea) when the drug is initially started or when the dose is increased.  In most patients, these side effects can be minimized or avoided by starting from a smaller dose.

Metformin is part of our weight loss protocol.  American Academy for Anti Aging Medicine also recommend otherwise healthy people to take Metformin 50o mg twice a day for anti aging and cancer prevention purposes.  Metformin is available at our offices.

Phentermine Rx is available with an office visit.

We advise our patients to learn how to gradually change the way you eat without using Rx appetite suppressants.  It’ll be much easier for you to maintain weight in the future.  However, if your appetite is too difficult to control and it’s really affecting your weight control, we do prescribe appetite suppressants (e.g. phentermine), but that requires an office visit to see a physician.  If you need such service, please call 888.688.2451 or 803.233.3420 to schedule an appointment.

Appetite suppressants (Phentermine etc) Rx is resumed.

Some of our patients express the need for appetite suppressants.  After careful review, we decided to resume appetite suppressants Rx to our patients (with certain restrictions):

1.  All patients need to be seen in the office, before s/he can receive a Rx.

2.  Each patient will receive 4-week supply of appetite suppressants, with no refills.

3.  Each patient should show weight loss progress, while receiving appetite suppressants.

4.  Patients who don’t show progress will be required to change treatment plans.

5.  Clinic appointments are limited.  The first appointment availability is between 6pm and 8 pm on Monday, Dec. 16th, 2013.  Please call 803.233.3420 to make an appt.  Missed appointments will be charged a $50 fee.
