What defines an ideal diet?

We all know that our body weight is a reflection of the calories that we eat (CALin) and the calories that we burn (CALout).  There are the only 3 possible scenarios listed below:

CALin > CALout: Weight Gain

CALin = CALout: Weight Maintenance

CALin < CALout: Weight Loss

So, a perfect diet should be to reduce CALin to a minimum and to increase the CALout to a maximum while maintaining nutritional balance without major difficulties or side effects.

We have been improving our Holistic hCG Diet at DrWLC for many years towards that goal.   In this series, we’ll discuss each of the above in separate blogs.

“This is the best diet plan I have ever tried with the fastest results.”

Dr. Cheng,
I just wanted to take a minute and thank you for your weight loss program.  I have lost 73 lbs in 3 1/2 months and 12 inches from my waist.  I have went from 252 lbs to 179 lbs.  I have a lot more energy, sleep better and feel better than I have in a long time.  This is the best diet plan I have ever tried with the fastest results.  I think I lost 30lbs the first month with 13lbs lost in the first week.  I am a little tired of protein bars but it is well worth it.  I have learned to make healthier meal choices and I cant eat as much as before which is a good thing.  I have had no negative side effects at all.  I am very happy with the results so far and a few people I have seen did not even recognize me at first since I look so much different.
I even cheat (a little) sometimes and still loose weight.  I went on vacation a few weeks ago and you can see from my chart I did not loose much those two weeks but what impressed me was that I ate ice cream, fries and popcorn among other things and did not gain a pound.  I only ate a little of each since I just needed a little break from the diet, but I am back on track now and headed toward my goal of 150 lbs maybe even 140 lbs which I hope to reach by Christmas this year.  That’s only 30 to 40 more lbs so I know I can do it since I have lost twice that much already.
Thanks again,
Stephanie

About lipotropic injections.

About lipotropic injections:

  1. The injection is pretty painful.  We tried that before but we discontinued.  (We still have some of the drugs left in the office.)
  2. It’s not as effective as reported.
  3. It’s meant to dissolve the under the skin fat (where needles can reach), not the deep abnormal fat that we want to lose.
  4. This type of injection is generally referred to mesotherapy.  It’s a form of body contouring technique.  But for total body weight loss, it’s practically useless.  It may enhance a total body weight loss plan, but not a replacement.
  5. You may add B12 to your hCG plan, as many of our patients do.
  6. There is no better method to lose weight than the holistic hCG plan.

Another happy patient after ~60 lbs weight loss!

Here is another interesting story.

Hello Dr. Cheng!I just had to tell you about an incident I had yesterday when I went to my OBGYN in Columbia (Greater Columbia OBGYN).  Well, I had not been in since I started your program. My doctor there is the one that suggested that I look into the hGC shots considering all of my metabolic problems/PCOS etc.  Anyway, when I got there, my doctor walked right by me without saying hello.  This was weird because her and I have become good friends over the years; I chalked it up to her just being in a rush or maybe not seeing me.  Later, I was directed to her office where she joined me.  It was then that she realized who I was.  She could not believe my weight loss!  She hugged me and almost cried because she has known the struggle I have had.  She then took me to all of the nurses and called the other doctor over to see me.  Everyone went on and on!  I was asked and asked “how, where and what” about my weight loss!  So, I handeed out the 6 cards I had of yours and some of the others wrote the website and number down.  It was a great feeling and I suspect you are going to hear from a few of the nurses!  They could just not believe it!  People actually took turns coming to see and to write down your information.  The commotion finally died down about after half an hour later, and I then got to resume with my appointment.

I just had to share that with you!

Bryan lost 95 lbs!

Here is what Bryan wrote to us.  His weight loss chart is also attached.

Hi Dr Cheng,

I have been extremely pleased with the great progress I was able to achieve on this diet.  I’ve had many opportunities to testify to how well this program has worked for me.  It’s been very encouraging to hear the compliments from friends and family, and to enjoy feeling better, having lost 100 pounds.

I’ve been able to maintain my weight within a tight range over the past few months by finding a good balance of diet, while still enjoying social times with friends and weekend outings.  I still have some protein bars, and plan to continue on the 1 bar for breakfast, 1 bar for lunch and reasonable dinner plan for the fall season.  I anticipate coming back in a few months to lose a few more pounds, but at the moment, my wallet could use a break.  :-).  I still plan to come by from time to time over the next few months to get some protein bars as I need them.  I’m sure we’ll talk again soon.

Thanks again for the support of yourself and your office personnel.

Bryan

What to do if you are still hungry while taking appetite suppressants?

It’s common that after being on appetite suppressants for a while, you develop tolerance to it. The mechanism of this tolerance may be due to depletion of serotonin in your brain. That’s why we use an SSRI to increase the effective concentration of serotonin in the brain for phentermine to work better. The common SSRIs that we use are trazadone and fluoxetine. The other product that we use to treat this tolerance is an amino acid compound (Neuroreplete or D5). Ideally SSRI and D5 should be used together with phentermine. But due to cost (D5 costs ~$100/month), we use only SSRI ($10/month) in our standard protocol.  D5 is added only after a patient has developed tolerance.  This approach seems to work well for most people.

How to manage phentermine tolerance (or tolerance to other appetite suppressants)?

  1. First of all, determine if phentermine still works for you.  If you feel any appetite suppression or increased energy after taking phentermine, then it still works.
  2. Next, determine how long phentermine controls your appetite.  Let’s say you take a phentermine tablet around 8am and you start feeling hungry around 4pm. This means that phentermine is able to control your appetite for about ~8 hours.
  3. Then determine when is the best time to take your phentermine.  Take the above example where you take phentermine around 8 am and feel hungry around 4pm.  Let’s say your sleep time is 11 pm.  So between 4pm and 11pm, there is ~7 hours without effective appetite suppression.
  4. Now change the time you take phentermine.  In the example above, in the 7 hours before your bed time, you don’t have effective appetite suppression.  You need to push the time you take phentermine ~7 hours later, from 8 am to ~3pm.
  5. If you take phentermine too early, you’ll feel hungry.  If you take it too late, you won’t be able to sleep.  You need to use what I described above to adjust the timing of phentermine to achieve your appetite suppression goal.  The Goal is that you don’t feel hungry in the evening hours and you can go to sleep near your regular hours (10-12 pm for most people).

hGH,Your Body and Adult Growth Hormone Deficiency

Human growth hormone is an important hormone in your body.  It stimulates growth, cell reproduction and regeneration (repair) in humans and other animals.  hGH, like thyroid hormone, is involved in keeping every cell, tissue and organ healthy in your body.  Specifically, it contributes to:

  • Conversion of body fat to muscle mass
  • Growth of all tissues
  • Energy level
  • Tissue repair
  • Whole body healing
  • Cell replacement
  • Bone strength
  • Brain function
  • Sexual function
  • Organ health and integrity
  • Enzyme production
  • Integrity of hair, nails, skin and vital organs

When you have too little HGH (adult growth hormone deficiency, or AGHD, ICD-9 252.3), you  may some or all of the following signs and symptoms:

  • Overweight or obesity, esp. in the belly area.
  • Mood change (anxiety and depression)
  • Abnormal blood lipids (esp. high LDL, high triglycerides)
  • Low sex drive and poor sexual performance
  • Fatigue
  • Social isolation (feelings of being isolated from other people)
  • Less tolerance to heat and cold
  • Less muscle (lean body mass)
  • Less strength, stamina and ability to exercise without taking a rest
  • Reduced bone density and a tendency to have more bone fractures as they get older
There are many reasons why one may develop AGHD, e.g., a pituitary tumor.  But one may also develop AGHD as part of natural aging process, i.e., without any other significant causes.
If you suspect that you may have AGHD, some lab tests are usually performed to further support the diagnosis of AGHD, including a simple test of IGF-1 and other  more sophisticated
tests.
If you are interested in finding out if you suffer from AGHD, please log into your account and fill out a HGH Questionnaire.  HGH replacement therapy, however, is expensive, at ~$700/month.
